Steam Heart

Tick and tock, tick and tock Each beat hits a block. Is it a heart or is it a clock? So precise, each rhythmic shock. Cogwheels spinning all over the place, Covered in flesh, blood and sweat. They spin through the bones and skin, Entangling the veins in a spiral mesh. Chained by the levers of meaning, The Why, now erased from existence. The joints are free yet they're locked, You want to dance but you'll work. The air is cold but you won't feel it, The song is loud but you won't sway, The sun is up but you won't bask, The screen is bright and you're lost. You long for a fuel which doesn't exist, One which burns bright and long. You want to fly but you keep swimming, The wings now decay, rust and rot. The shackles biting into the flesh, Do you still feel the pain? As the skin grows over the chains, And the rust settling in your veins. Does your shell still have a soul, Or is it just running on macro mode? Does the colours still catch your eye, Or has your ink cartridge gone flying? Cables running through the veins, Did you get the software update? Staring at the sky this late, Is it yearning or just the cruel fate? Oil spilling out of eye sockets, Gears cranking as you move. The clock now lagging behind, Yet the shell thumps on every beat. Congrats, on finishing your life, Are there flowers in your eyes? Look here, say cheese and smile, Your lungs full of ash now burn inside.
